Yesterday we hiked Four Peaks with the intention drinking Four Peaks Brewery beer on top of the highest peak, Brown’s Peak. An adventure was had.
After a rousing up up the posse and a quick drive down the freeway, the real trip started with driving a 21 mile fire road in a (legally) totaled Mercury Mountaineer loaded with 7 people. After an hour or so of the fire road, the trail head was a very welcome sight. Unfortunately a forest fire from a month ago followed by ash flooding only two weeks ago completely demolished certain parts of the mountain leaving us with no trail to followed. We decided to bushwhack it up the mountain and somehow, possibly by the grace of god, we found the trail again and continued to the peak.
Trail guides had reported a 250 foot “scramble” right below the peak. Well, if you’ve never done any mountain climbing and you don’t like heights, I would not recommend this hike. And yet despite have those two aforementioned disadvantages (and maybe one panic attack) Amanda still climbed all the way to the peak (I think I’ve picked a winner).
Along the entire hike, I kept noticing flashes if light coming from other peaks around us or on the sides of Four Peaks and I kept wondering if someone was sending out a distress signal. At the top of Brown’s Peak we discovered a Boy Scout troupe on top using mirrors to signal to other locations. It turns out that there were 80 Boy Scout groups on peaks all over the state signaling and radioing to one another that day.
We cheersed, we drank and we took the view in. I may have had two beers on top (and 3 more on the way down) but I like to think they were well deserved.
Damn Arizona, you’re fucking awesome.
Another Sedona adventure today.
We mays as well live here over the weekends.
Maybe this is just a Thomas Keating appreciation post (Look at that handsome devil!) but we got in a great ride on Saturday to Canyon Lake and beyond. Cloud cover, rain, dirt, sunshine, and wind, this ride had it all. Great times with great company.
Today has been mathematical.
"Are you crazy running that light? You just barely missed that truck!"
"Exactly, everything went according to plan."
I don’t always get pulled over by the police but when I do, I’m %100 guilty.
You Know What’s Been Fun Today?
Riding in 110 degree heat with a hangover. Yeah, that shit’s my shit.
